Named version management

Currently imported sp projects that are turned into iModel files do not have any named version/change history management in addition to the lines of text telling what changes have been done. It would be nice to be able to save named versions, download, open and edit these or turn them into new projects etc. At the moment we need to save local backups of versions manually through synchro desktop software using save as -> private project. This works, but is extra work and not perfect either.

Thank you for your idea. We understand the desire for it and will consider it as a part of a future release.

Edit: To be specific, we often use local .sp files t start the work due to it being very fast and flexible at the point when everything is more or less unsure. Hence we import the .sp file usually after initial design.

    Hello,

we are using Synchro control throughout our process. The wish regarding named versions would affect the whole process greatly. We use Synchro Control to make schedules from scratch, being able to work on the same file simultaniously, making work a lot more efficient. We also use Synchro control to distribute the schedule and maintain it throughout the project.

In both cases we would like to be able to save snapshots/revisions of the project, even better would be to have automatic snapshots every hour. We use these in case we need to go back to a previous state and also these work as backups of the project in case anything goes wrong.

We used to work on a local shared drive, but with sp files we were not able to work on the same file simultaniously, always having to merge our progress every now and then. In addition we have been saving revisions, multiple each day for the ability to go back, increase redundance, increase quality and mutch more.

If you would like more information and ideas from a person that has also been working in product lifecycle management, I am open to a conversation. I think construction management has a lot to learn from PLM, increasing redundance, quality and the ability to have international teams work as efficiently as possible. I think you have already made a giant leap to the right direction and this kind of feature would really be very beneficial.

Kind of regarding the same theme, it would be very nice to see a undo/redo button when working on Schedules through the desktop software, The lack of this functionality is often quite frustrating, since it is something many are very udes to use when something minor goes wrong, ie. you press the wrong button.

Thanks for submitting this idea. To clartify further, you would like to effectively manage 4D Model/ schedule named versions, so you an always revert back to a previous state (almost sounds like a restore point). This is the first time I heard about this request so would like to learn more from you.

When working on a 4D model using SYNCHRO Control and 4D Pro, you don't really need to save the .sp file locally after the initial deployment, and in fact you can start with a blank deployment and open the project in 4D Pro and start editing. Are you already working on a Control project using 4D Pro to author?
